Philadelphia Union Win, Advance to the Quarterfinal

It was a late-night match in Orlando, as the Philadelphia Union took on Inter Miami CF in Group A play. On paper, the Union were heavily favored. Inter Miami has yet to get a single point in club history (yikes). Last night, the Union made sure they wouldn’t be the team to let them into the points column as they defeated Miami CF 2-1.
With the victory, Philly earned yet another 3 points, tied with Orlando City FC for 6 overall in Group A. The Union are moving on to the Round of 16.

If you’re a gambler, taking Union +130 was a piece of cake last night. The past two matches on the pitch have been a great warm-up for gambling before the rest of sports resume play.

First Half:
The Union started out much better than last week’s game against NYCFC and just four minutes in, defender Kai Wagner put one in the back of the net. Wagner becomes the 70th player to score a regular-season goal in club history.
Dream start for @PhilaUnion!

In the 22nd minute, Inter Miami had a great chance as the ball bounced around the box, but Union goalkeeper Andre Blake made a big save. Blake is easily one of the best goalies in the league and hasn’t disappointed so far in the “MLS is Back Tournament”. It’s surprising that Blake is still in the MLS, he’s that good.
Around the 26th minute, it seemed that the Union had scored their second goal of the game however, striker Kacper Przybylko was ruled offside. It was a very questionable call and if VAR was used, that goal might have counted. The angle that was given on TV didn’t clearly show if Przybylko was offside and never showed a VAR view.
In the 35th minute, Inter Miami tied the game on a beautiful counter-attack after sloppy defense from the Union.

The first half ended 1-1 as the Union started off hot, but one defensive error led to an equalizer by Inter Miami CF. Only one yellow card was given in the first half despite a very physical game from both sides.
Second Half:
To start off the second half, Ilsinho replaced Sergio Santos. In the 51st minute, Inter Miami had an opportunity to take a 2-1 lead but Union goalie Andre Blake stopped that from happening, making another beautiful save. Inter Miami took control at the start of the second half as the Union struggled to create much offense.
In the 62nd minute, the Union capitalized on a counter-attack of their own, and Kacper Przybylko put it home, taking the lead 2-1.

Following this goal, the momentum shifted and it was all Union. In the 72nd minute, Warren Creavalle came in for José MartÃnez after he was stretchered off. Hopefully, it isn’t too bad of an injury.
In the 75th minute, Inter Miami was awarded a PK following a handball in the box. It was a very questionable call that had a huge impact on the game. The referee second-guessed his call and went to VAR, where his decision was changed. Inter Miami had a couple of more chances to tie the game but couldn’t equalize.
The Union still have one more game in Group A to stay on top next Monday against Orlando City SC.
If you can’t watch the game next week, don’t worry we have you covered. Our good buddies over at Fox Sports The Gambler announced that they are the NEW HOME for Philadelphia Union Soccer. Gotta love it. Sean Brace and the rest of the crew over there are fantastic, and even have our guy Victor Williams locked in as an Eagles Insider for the upcoming NFL season.
See you Monday. #Doop
