The Eagles Designated Survivor

An interesting article was posted on NBC Sports Philly today regarding the Eagles and how they should consider quarantining a Quarterback if/when the NFL season returns to play for the 2020 season.
The NFL is pretty screwed at the moment given the current state of the pandemic happening. A few days ago, it was announced that Doug Pederson tested positive for COVID-19. Quarterbacks Matthew Stafford and Garner Minshew also tested positive and have been added to their teams COVID-19 lists. Last week, we saw Lane Johnson and a few other Eagles players be added to the same list too.
Dave Zangaro thinks it would make sense if the Eagles quarantined a quarterback just incase Carson Wentz tests positive at any point. I would have to agree. We should definitely make an Eagles quarterback a Designated Survivor.
Quick History Lesson for the Kids:
In the United States, a designated survivor (or designated successor) is a named individual in the presidential line of succession, chosen to stay (at a secure and undisclosed location) away from events such as State of the Union addresses and presidential inaugurations. The practice of designating a successor is intended to safeguard continuity in the office of the president in the event the president along with the vice president and multiple other officials in the presidential line of succession die in a mass-casualty incident. The procedure originated in the 1950s during the Cold War with its risk of nuclear attack.
If such an event occurred, the surviving official highest in the line of succession as delineated in the Presidential Succession Act of 1947 would become acting president of the United States. Consequently, the individual named must be eligible to serve as president. In practice, the designated survivor is usually a member of the president’s Cabinet, and is chosen by the president.
To Dave’s point, it definitely makes sense to have someone who is not around the team, that knows the system, who will be quarantined. The first choice for a Designated Survivor would be Jack Bauer, I get that. However, like Dave, my vote is for Nate Sudfeld.
Jalen Hurts needs to be in the locker room to develop. Nate however, has made a living as a backup QB and knows the system already. Zoom call Nate Sudfeld in to QB and Team Meetings from a bunker under City Hall (not connected to Suburban Station) and let’s keep him safe and ready to rock if needed like it’s the god damn Cold War.
Dougie P who’s currently asymptomatic and self-quarantining said it’s something the team could consider.
It’s unfortunate that that happens,” Pederson said on a Zoom call. “I think we know that these things are going to happen probably throughout the course of the season.
“If it happens, and you hope it happens early enough to where you don’t get to the regular season, but conversations that are ongoing still with my staff and the offensive guys on staff, Press [Taylor] and Rich [Scangarello], Marty [Mornhinweg], those guys, and haven’t decided anything yet on that, obviously, but it is something to consider as we move forward.
At this point, quarantining Nate Sudfeld in a secluded bunker under City Hall wouldn’t even make the top 10 list of craziest things to happen this year. The NFL has a lot of things to figure out over the next month.
Hopefully, they are looking at the NBA and NHL on what to do and making note of the continuous screw-ups from the MLB.
To also note: This is what happens when I write Eagles articles rather than the TLL Eagles crew. Blame them.
