Ben Simmons has been diagnosed with subluxation of the left patella and has been listed OUT while treatment options are currently being considered.
Yeah I know. I had to google it too:
What is kneecap subluxation? A subluxing patella (kneecap) is a temporary, partial dislocation of the kneecap from its normal position in the groove in the end of the thigh bone (femur). This groove is located between two bumps at the end of the thigh bone called the femoral condyles.
Terrible news.
As a result of this injury, the ligaments and tendons around the kneecap are torn or stretched. It will take about 4 to 6 weeks for these tissues to heal. During this time, the knee must be protected to prevent another injury. Once a patella dislocation or subluxation has occurred, it is more likely to happen again.
Oh cool so this is what we’re going to have to deal with now? A lingering knee issue? Just great. I suppose the silver lining here is that there was no ligament damage. That’s great news. These are typically treated without surgery. The more violent ones that tear many of the stabilizing ligaments can be treated with surgery.
MRI showed no ligament damage for Simmons, but subluxation of the left knee cap. Both sides are collectively working on treatment options. https://t.co/W1cRC0V8Rz
