Andre Blake Injury Update

Philadelphia Union head coach Jim Curtin met with the media today and revealed some very important information regarding star goalie Andre Blake.

“With Andre, unfortunately, there was a fracture in the hand that will rule him out certainly for this match. The hope is, if things go well, there is a possibility that it is not a season-ending injury.”

This is devastating news for Blake and the Union as they are just weeks away from the MLS Playoffs. Hopefully like Curtin said that this injury is not season-ending. In 21 games, Blake has only allowed 18 goals and has 63 saves. Blake has around two to three weeks to recover from his hand injury before the playoffs. He will definitely try his hardest to be back at some point during the playoffs.

Who Replaces Andre Blake?

Now the Union turns to backup goalie Joe Bendik who came in for the final minutes of Wednesday’s game against the Chicago Fire. Bendik was acquired from the Columbus Crew in 2019 on July 19th in exchange for a 2020 MLS SuperDraft natural second-round selection.
