Rob McElhenney to Bring Wrexham AFC to Philadelphia for a Friendly against the Philadelphia Union

Always Sunny star Rob McElhenney announced on WMMR’s Preston & Steve Show Friday morning that he will be bringing his Welsh soccer team, the Wrexham A.F.C., to Subaru Park to face the Philadelphia Union on July 29th. McElhenney bought Wrexham A.F.C. in November 2020 with Ryan Reynolds. The team itself was founded in 1864 and plays in a small Welsh town in an 11,000 capacity stadium.
Rob called into The Preston & Steve Show to make the announcement:
The match will be in partnership with CORA Services and Philabundance, which are two Philly based organizations that Rob McElhenney, a Philly guy, supports. Tickets to the match will be free but attendees are asked to bring food donations for Philabundance.
More from The Preston and Steve Show:
Distribution of tickets is still being worked out, but both Rob and Ryan are excited to bring their team stateside and finally see a game in person. (Ryan is filming a movie but making every attempt to be in attendance.) The game and all of the behind the scenes antics will be filmed for Welcome to Wrexham, an FX docuseries following the actors’ purchase and stewardship of the Welsh soccer team.
The Preston & Steve Show is set to broadcast live from Subaru Park on July 29th. Folks can tune in locally on 93.3 WMMR, or from anywhere in the world by streaming live on wmmr.com or downloading the WMMR App.
In other McElhenney news, he’s been an amazing follow on Twitter during the Sixers playoffs. He’s a big Ben Simmons guy, which is getting harder and harder to be these days. The Sixers will be in South Philly tomorrow for Game 7 of the playoff series against the Hawks after winning last night in Atlanta.
