Daryl Morey purchases Ben Simmons NFT amidst trade rumors

The Ben Simmons situation continues to get more and more confusing in Philadelphia. Earlier today, 76ers President of Basketball Operations Daryl Morey purchased an NBA Top Shot highlight of Ben Simmons dunking against the Utah Jazz for $4,444. Morey has been an avid collector of NBA Top Shot NFTs, owning 71 now.
Purchasing what is essentially stock in Ben Simmons when he could get moved is an interesting move, but I wouldn’t put much weight into it for several reasons. First off, this is without a doubt a 4D chess move by Morey to show he is willing to keep Ben around. Also, Top Shot is in a downward trend currently, with prices on top items plummeting over the last few weeks.
Morey is catching all types of heat due to his Twitter presence. WIP is having a huge cry fest that Daryl Morey shouldn’t use social media and “just be a GM” instead. My guess, is that their anger comes from the fact that they do not know how to use social media and just need something to yell at during the summer months of the offseason after spending the last few weeks crying about Ben Simmons.
Regardless, this doesn’t change much, if at all, anything regarding the current situation with Simmons. Daryl Morey has made it clear to teams like the Cavaliers and Pacers that he only wants a star in return for Ben Simmons while hoping Damian Lillard becomes available.
