Phillies Roster Moves ahead of tonight’s game in the Bronx

After Zach Eflin hit the 10-Day Injured List yesterday and with Falter and Hammer heading to the COVID-related IL, Mauricio Llovera and Mickey Moniak were both recalled from Triple A Lehigh Valley. Today, the Phillies made another roster move, opting to recall Spencer Howard and send Mickey Moniak back to Triple A Lehigh Valley.
Just last week, the Moniak went 2-for-2 with a three run home runs and a run scoring double in game against Buffalo on Saturday. That game, just like the Phillies game, was suspended in the fourth inning due to some crazy thunderstorms yesterday. Moniak got his work in early, with a home run, a double, and four RBI. It was his 10th home run of the season in Triple-A. He’s slashing .232/.295/.240 with a .454 OPS on the year with the IronPigs with 10 home runs, seven doubles, four triples, and 38 RBI.
However, the Phillies remain in a pitching crisis with COVID issues, injuries, and just flat out bad performances from Aaron Nola. Spencer Howard will get another shot with the Phillies. At the very least, we hope he can pitch more than three innings before running into the dreaded fourth inning that has haunted him over the last two years.
Tonight the Phillies will have a bullpen game in the Bronx and look to climb to two games above .500 yet again.
