Eagles trade discussions for Deshaun Watson continue

Late last night, reporter Chris Trapasso tweeted that talks between the Philadelphia Eagles and the Houston Texans were heating up regarding a Deshaun Watson trade. Trapasso went on to say there are still some hurdles, but both sides are attempting to come to an agreement. Watson is in the midst of sexual assault lawsuits and an investigation by the NFL.
Shortly after that report, Texans writer Aaron Wilson said that there was no trade imminent for Watson due to the ongoing situation off the field. Philadelphia has been the most linked team to Deshaun Watson through all of the legal battles, with some saying when it’s all said and done, he will be heading to Philadelphia.
Moving for Watson right now doesn’t make much sense at all. Jalen Hurts has won over the city and the locker room, and he deserves a proper shot at the starting job before the team searches for his replacement. Despite that, the Eagles have positioned themselves as the top landing spot with several high draft picks in the 2022 NFL Draft. Looking at these reports it seems that a trade will probably happen but not until everything is settled with Watson, which could be awhile.
If the Eagles were to trade for Deshaun Watson after all this, an offseason trade seems like the best possible case for Philadelphia. It would allow the Eagles to see Jalen Hurts’ potential going forward, and the team can see the results from the lawsuit and decide if trading for Watson is worth it after all of that.
