76ers hire long-time Doc Rivers assistant to join coaching staff

It looks like there are going to be some changes to Doc Rivers’ coaching staff this upcoming season. According to Derek Bodner, Rivers will be bringing on Jamie Young to be an assistant on the 76ers’ staff after leaving the Boston Celtics. Young was with Doc in Boston under numerous roles during his entire tenure with the Celtics.
Doc almost lost some staff members like Sam Cassell to head coaching gigs this offseason, but everyone looks to be staying in town. It’s unknown what Young’s exact role will be, but he will likely be a key contributor on the sidelines alongside Dave Joerger and Cassell. Young left Boston earlier this summer after they hired their new head coach and former 76ers’ assistant, Ime Udoka.
“Jamie was here long before me, and I kept him on my staff because of his incredible work ethic. He has a great basketball mind and more importantly, he is honest.” – Doc Rivers.
During their time together in Boston, Doc and Young had a close relationship, with Jamie almost leaving the Celtics to join Rivers in LA with the Clippers. Currently, the 76ers are going through their summer league matchups and hoping to make some adjustments to their roster as well ahead of next season.
