Eagles fan gets a Gardner Minshew tattoo: crazy or honorable?
Oh boy, this is a doozy. It has been brought to my attention that a friend of a friend of The Liberty Line got a Gardner Minshew tattoo after his trade to the Eagles. Before I can even comment, just take a look at the build-up and the finished product below:
I don’t even know where to start with this, so I’ll just go from the beginning. My man Tommy Godin received a text from his buddy, diehard Birds fan, Christian Yoast. So, of course, Yoast promised he would get a Minshew tattoo if he ever played for the Eagles.
Not two weeks later, Howie Roseman went ahead and granted his wish, sending a 6th round pick to the Jags for Minshew Mania. And, as you can see above, Yoast was a man of his word.
Full disclosure, Tommy and I go wayyyyy back, so I caught wind of this bet (if you can call it that) before Minshew made his way to Philly. So I thought to myself, “Lmao, this dude is crazy. Odds are we won’t get Minshew, and even if we do, he probably won’t do it.”
How wrong I was.
Not only did Howie make it happen, he did it with a quickness. And, honestly, Christian probably pulled the trigger even faster.
He could have easily backed out and gone, “Jesus Christ, this is clearly a setup. I refuse.” If I was his buddy, I would’ve understood. Maybe Tommy would have too. I guess we’ll never know.
The best part is, it’s a really well-done tattoo. Clean lines, simple design, A+ design choice by Christian, and A+ work by the artist. I’m sure the sentimental value makes it well worth it.
I can’t really criticize the man for showing excessive love to a player that isn’t that important to the team’s success. Hell, I bought a Cody Parkey jersey in 2014 (sweet irony). Plus, his reasoning as to why he couldn’t back out is a big brain play.
We love a guy that makes sacrifices for the greater good of the team.
If any bench guy on the Birds needs his own band of fans, it’s easily Minshew Mania. I can see Yoast leading the Minshew Mafia into battle against an unsuspecting group of Cowboys fans in Week 18.
After an in-depth analysis of the situation, I say this was an honorable move. Sure, it is a bit deranged, but we’re Eagles fans. To call getting this tattoo deranged would be a disservice to all the literal psychos we have in this fan base (both inside and outside the city limits, NAT).
If you want to hear more about this story from the sources, hit up Christian Yoast and Tommy Godin on Twitter. I’ve linked their profiles in their names because I’m a fucking tech god.
