Former Eagles cost Patriots the win against Dallas Cowboys on Sunday

The ghosts of the Eagles’ past were on display last night when the New England Patriots hosted the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday afternoon. The Patriots and Cowboys had an electric game, going back and forth in the closing minutes. When the game got sent to OT, New England committed some huge mistakes that Philly fans are very used to.
On the Patriots’ first drive in overtime, Mac Jones had Nelson Agholor wide open on a slant route for what could have been a 15-yard gain. Jones hit Agholor in stride on a perfect pass, but Agholor dropped the completion. New England failed to score on the drive and was forced to punt back to Dallas.
The Cowboys drove down the field, and the final strike was delivered when Dak Prescott hit CeeDee Lamb for a 35-yard touchdown. Lamb was wide open following the blown coverage by, you guessed it, Jalen Mills. Lamb celebrated by waving in Mills’ face, with a history between these two dating back to Mills’ time with the Eagles.
Last night’s game showcased several issues of the Eagles’ previous seasons, and while Philly does have many problems, the ones shown tonight don’t seem to exist anymore. With Quez Watkins and DeVonta Smith, drops are a rarity nowadays. Meanwhile, the Eagles’ secondary has been quite strong this season outside of the linebackers with Darius Slay and Avonte Maddox having very impressive seasons.
Bill Belichick gave these Jalen Mills and Nelson Agholor a combined $48 million this offseason, and things don’t look to be paying off. Agholor is on pace for fewer yards and touchdowns than last season. Meanwhile, Mills has dealt with injuries, and his tackle numbers are way down from his average in Philadelphia. New England is currently 2-4 and could be stuck down there for a while following the large contracts paid this offseason.
