Pick Tracker: How a looming Deshaun Watson trade affects the Eagles’ 3 first-round picks

Enjoy it while it lasts, Eagles fans. The excitement of several high draft picks is very likely to be non-existent by next week. The Miami Dolphins lost miserably to the Atlanta Falcons yesterday and currently hold the 2nd pick in the 2022 NFL Draft. Meanwhile, the Eagles sit in 6th, and the Colts fell to 13th after a win over the San Francisco 49ers.
Ahead of yesterday’s games, more and more rumors circulated that the Miami Dolphins were going to acquire Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson. Following a poor performance from Tua Tagovailoa and a lack of current draft capital, a deal seems like it will occur before next week’s trade deadline.
Despite claims that Watson would be placed on the Commissioner’s Exempt List, that no longer seems to be the case. According to league rules, a player has to commit a violent crime or felony, neither of which Watson has been charged with at this time. Ian Rapoport reported that the NFL is going forward with allowing him to play at this time.
The Carolina Panthers have been another team involved in discussions alongside the Eagles. However, Deshaun Watson has made it clear he won’t waive his no-trade clause for Philadelphia, taking them out of the race.
If the Dolphins land Watson the chances of their pick being in the top ten will be non-existent. Although the off-the-field issues, Watson is one of the best QBs in football and will be surrounded by a half-decent offense which he never had in Houston.
For the Colts, their surge was expected with a much easier schedule than the start of the season. Carson Wentz is on pace to play 75% of the Colts snaps in six games or 70% in five games.
The good news for the draft is that the Eagles continue to play horribly and are falling in the standings every week. If Howie Roseman can make the proper selections with what he has available is another question.
This week the Eagles play the Detroit Lions, who hold the first pick at this time and are 0-7. Miami travels to Buffalo to play the Bills, and the Colts host the Tennessee Titans. Both games are tough matchups, but the overall outlook is grim.
