Pick Tracker: Miami not trading for Deshaun Watson, sticking with Tua Tagovailoa for rest of season

Great news for the Eagles’ draft capital. After numerous rumors that the Miami Dolphins would be acquiring Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson, that no longer appears to be the case. Earlier today, Dolphins head coach Brian Flores stated that Tua Tagovailoa is the team’s quarterback for the remainder of the season.
The Dolphins currently hold the 2nd pick in the 2022 NFL Draft and sent the pick to Philadelphia when trading up to the 6th pick this offseason. If Miami were to acquire Watson, the chances of landing a high selection would plummet. Reportedly, the Dolphins’ owner signed off on a trade but wanted all of Deshaun Watson’s legal issues settled before acquiring him.
Howie Roseman was also very interested in Deshaun Watson, but Watson refused to waive his no-trade clause for the Eagles, taking them out of the race. With Tagovailoa struggling under center so far, it’s doubtful that Miami will improve by much to end the season.
Depending on how Sunday’s game goes against the Detroit Lions, there’s a chance the Eagles could hold the number one pick in the upcoming draft. Ahead of this week’s games, the Eagles own the 2nd, 6th, and 13th selections in a defensively loaded draft class.
