Nick Sirianni kept open line with Fletcher Cox during trade rumors

During Tuesday’s NFL trade deadline, veteran defensive tackle Fletcher Cox was one of the highly discussed names. Cox has had a lackluster season but still had plenty of interest around the league.

Naturally, it can become awkward when these rumors swirl regarding your future. However, Nick Sirianni stepped in to ensure everything was okay between the Eagles and their defensive leader.

“Any time stuff like that happens, you always want to (communicate). My biggest thing is just try to communicate with everybody about everything, and that’s Howie’s approach at it, as well, to be able to communicate through all those things.”

“Whether it’s a trade, whether it’s something personal that somebody’s going through, anything, we just want to be there for our players to make sure they know that we’re there for them and be honest with everything that’s going on.”

Despite all the on-field concerns, Sirianni truly is a tremendous players coach and always has his players bought in. Even through all of the drama surrounding the flower metaphor, the players loved it and have continued to rally around it.

Fletcher Cox has been openly critical of the defensive schemes this season, but Jonathan Gannon alluded to his willingness to adjust for Cox. Fletcher Cox and the Eagles are back in action at home this Sunday against the Los Angeles Chargers.
