Fletcher Cox discusses trade deadline rumors

Some players are often upset after being involved in trade rumors, but not Fletcher Cox. This morning, the Eagles defensive tackle spoke to the media for the first time since the trade deadline and addressed the reports. Cox didn’t appear distressed and instead wanted to put it all in the past.

“I’m happy to be here, and I’m looking forward to going out and playing at the Linc on Sunday. … They wanted me here, Mr. Lurie wanted me here, this organization wanted me here, I want to be here. Forever Philly and I’ve been here for ten years, and I’m happy to be here.”

Nick Sirianni spoke yesterday that the team kept Fletcher Cox in the loop during the ongoing negotiations, and Fletch was certainly pleased with that mindset.

“Can’t do nothing but respect this organization for doing that. I haven’t been anywhere else, but most places really don’t include the player into that choice-making. But I think Howie and Nick did a really good job of communication with (agent) Todd (France) and me, and at the end of the day, I’m still an Eagle.”

You can’t ask for any better comments than what Fletcher Cox just said. It’s rare when a player is respectful of the business and happy where he is despite ongoing trade rumors. If a trade didn’t happen earlier this week, one likely wouldn’t come for a while with the Eagles not wanting too much dead cap ahead of the upcoming offseason.
