Two Phillies Pitchers Are Continuing to Take Part in the Arizona Fall League

With big moves starting to strike for the Phillies, the offseason is officially underway in the major leagues. Down in the minors, players are still getting consistent at-bats, taking part in the Arizona Fall League. Multiple minor leaguers for the Phillies are taking part, including Logan O’Hoppe, Bryson Stott, and Simon Muzziotti. Two pitchers are getting consistent reps as well, James McArthur and Hans Crouse.
James McArthur was 2-6 with a 4.25 ERA in 20 game appearances, including 15 games started throughout the 2021 minor league season. He threw 78.1 total innings, notching 83 strikeouts with a 1.26 WHIP. McArthur is participating with other Phillies players on the Peoria Javelinas this fall, where he is getting extra reps and practice to try and potentially land himself late on next year’s 40-man roster.
McArthur is struggling right now in the Arizona Fall League, posting an 11.17 ERA in 9.2 IP. He has allowed 14 hits and 12 earned runs, with 10 total strikeouts. He’s trying to get his footing under him to start, and what better place to do that in a fall baseball league, the time for mistakes to be made and lessons to be learned.
Hans Crouse is also pitching for the Javelinas this fall. Crouse is up to a 7.36 ERA in 11 innings in the AFL, with 9 hits and 9 earned runs allowed. Crouse pitched two games for the Phillies towards the end of the season, where he posted an ERA of 5.14 in seven innings pitched.

Both of these pitchers are continuing to get some much-needed innings down in the minors. Neither Crouse nor McArthur is ready for full-time MLB baseball yet, but both could see some time towards the end of the year if they can improve enough overtime. The Arizona Fall League has been a great source of practice and consistent playing time for the young Phillies minor leaguers, and we’ve got it all covered here at The Liberty Line.
