Report: 76ers view Tyrese Maxey as untouchable in potential Ben Simmons trades

It looks like Tyrese Maxey is here to stay. Earlier this afternoon, Bleacher Report’s Jake Fischer released more details surrounding the Ben Simmons-Celtics rumors. Fischer reported that Boston wasn’t considering Brown in discussions for Simmons at this time and would offer a package based around Marcus Smart and Robert Williams.
The most significant takeaway is what a potential trade package alongside Simmons could look like. According to Fischer, Tyrese Maxey is deemed untouchable by the 76ers unless Damian Lillard, Bradley Beal, or another star guard were involved in the deal.
“Sixers staffers have been encouraged by the early returns of Tyrese Maxey as a starting guard, and the 21-year-old would seem to be untouchable in any Simmons trade conversation that didn’t bring back an All-NBA guard such as Damian Lillard or Bradley Beal.“
With this in mind, their likely offer for another star would be what was offered for James Harden last season: Simmons, Thybulle, and draft picks. It’s a hard decision on which young player the 76ers should move forward with, but it’s not shocking they’d be unwilling to move both.
Any deal will likely not occur until after the December 15th restriction ends, which allows free agents signed this past offseason to be moved. Even then, the Sixers could hold Simmons through the trade deadline until next season if the right deal isn’t found. Until then, Simmons has agreed to work with team medical officials after the 76ers resumed fining him for his absences.
