Darius Slay breaks down his matchup against DeVonta Smith

Earlier this week, I wrote about how DeVonta Smith would lock up Darius Slay if given the chance to cover him on defense. I also suggested that they film it and release a video so Eagles fans could see for themselves and what do you know, they did just that. (Please Credit @Eagles). If you haven’t seen the video, check it out below.
As predicted, DeVonta Smith clearly had Slay’s number. It was also nice to see that Smitty let Jalen Reagor join the video as his own personal cheerleader. Quez Watkins was also in attendance which was good to see. I was worried he wouldn’t be able to recover after dropping an easy touchdown against the Broncos last week. (Still love you Quez)
Slay commented today on his matchup against Smith during Eagles media availability.
Slay apparently thinks he won 2-of-3 against Smitty? He makes the case that Smith is wrong and only thinks he won because “he wasn’t ready.” If you watch the video above, there’s reason for concern. Slay pulled the move every kid in recess used to make and started the play before the ball snapped. It’s on video, man. Tape don’t lie. In the age of misinformation, we can’t have Slay speaking untrue events to the media. Definitely a cause for concern.
DeVonta Smith has been on a tear over the last few weeks and is consistently ranked as one of the best wide receivers by Pro Football Focus. The running game has definitely been helpful for Jalen Hurts to be more accurate with his passing game as well.
Slay commends Smitty’s confidence and his ability to ask questions and approach players on how he can get better. Absolutely love to see it. The Eagles offense is clicking and we have a tough matchup at home against the New Orleans Saints on Sunday.
I’ll be tailgating early with hopes of getting a home win for the first time this season.
