DeVonta Smith is happy to be in Philadelphia and not on the New York Giants
Tomorrow at MetLife Stadium, DeVonta Smith will take the field against the New York Giants. The Giants initially wanted Smith in last year’s NFL Draft. As we know, the Eagles initially had the No. 6 overall pick last year, but traded down to the No. 12 pick with the Dolphins. In return, the Eagles secured a 2022 first-round pick.
Leading up to the draft, everyone wanted a wide receiver, but with pick No. 12, it didn’t seem likely that DeVonta Smith would still be on the board for the Eagles, especially with the New York Giants at No. 11. Before the draft, Smitty blessed us with this clip, which is almost too perfect.
From there, the Eagles got on the phone with the Dallas Cowboys and traded the No. 12 pick for the No. 10 pick, leapfrogging the Giants in the process. The Giants then bailed on No. 11 and traded the whole way down to No. 20 and selected Kadarius Toney. Giants fans were obviously pissed.
Earlier this week, Smith commented on all of the funny videos from pissed off Giants fans when speaking with the media.
“They’re all funny, overall, I’m glad to be a Philadelphia Eagle. Glad to be here.”
On the season, DeVonta Smith has 46 receptions for 664 yards and four touchdowns. In comparison, Toney only has 35 receptions for 392 yards and zero touchdowns. The Giants are a dumpster fire while the Eagles are making a push not only for the Wild Card, but for the NFC East.
