Eagles preparing Gardner Minshew to possibly start Sunday against the Jets

Not the best news from Eagles offensive coordinator Shane Steichen. Yesterday, Nick Sirianni said Jalen hurts had been dealing with a hurt ankle and wouldn’t guarantee he could play this Sunday. Now, Steichen said today, the team is preparing to potentially be without Jalen Hurts and coaching up Gardner Minshew in case he has to play against the Jets.
So far, it seems precautionary, but both of these news pieces back to back make it seem like Hurts’ injury is worse than being let on. When asked if the game plan would change for Gardner Minshew, it didn’t seem so, with Steichen saying they would run what they run. I also don’t expect the Eagles to give the Jets any advantage one way or another.
Having to start Gardner Minshew in place of Hurts against the Jets isn’t the worst thing in the world, and I’m sure he would be fine. Luckily, the Eagles’ bye week is right after, allowing an extra few days for Hurts to recover from whatever this injury is.
Philadelphia is dealing with numerous injuries currently, having just placed Jack Driscoll on injured reserve, ending his season. We will have more of an idea of the severity when the Eagles release their practice report shortly.
