Injury Report: Sirianni gives interesting QB update ahead of matchup vs. Washington

Following the bye week, Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni gave an update on Jalen Hurts and the plan at quarterback for the week.
Sirianni noted that Hurts is “trending upward” in his recovery from an ankle injury sustained against the Giants. However, he also told reporters that Gardner Minshew will split first-team reps in the team’s walkthrough practice:
Nick Sirianni said Jalen Hurts and Gardner Minshew will split reps at today’s walkthrough, as they did two weeks ago prior to Jets game.

At the conclusion of the Eagles’ victory over the Jets, Sirianni stated that Hurts will remain the starter when healthy. The team is likely taking extra precautions in case Hurts’ ankle isn’t 100%.
With the recent COVID outbreak in the NFL, Sirianni could also be making sure that he has two quarterbacks ready to go if one of them becomes exposed.
Minshew completed 80% of his passes for 242 yards and 2 TDs against the Jets two weeks ago.
Jalen Hurts (ankle) says his goal is to be ready for Sunday. A less declarative statement than a couple weeks ago when he said he’d play against the Jets and didn’t.
