Union earn top 200 spot in World Club Ranking for January

The Philadelphia Union have made the Top 200 list on the International Federation of Football History & Statistics Club World ranking for January. The boys in blue stand at #200 and are the lone MLS team in the Top 200.
This year, the IFFHS publish their rankings monthly instead of just annually. In 2021, they ranked 290 out of 400. This list contains the best clubs in the world and features soccer powerhouses Man City, Man United, and Real Madrid.
The updated rankings come following the Union’s run in last year’s CONCACAF Champions League. After beating Saprissa and Atlanta United, they fell to Club América in a two-leg semifinal.
For the club’s first-ever appearance in this tournament, it was an impressive run. You can check out the full top 200 list here.
Looking ahead for the Union
As we get closer to the start of the 2022 MLS Season, the Union are looking to get back to deep playoff runs to win as much hardware as possible. However, with various offseason moves, the starting lineup will look different this year, and it will start up top at the striker position.
Record-breaking signing Mikael Uhre will look to make a massive impact in the first season as an MLS player replacing Kacper Przyblko.
In recent news, the Union have sent midfield Jamiro Monteiro to San Jose for general allocation money. Monteiro’s absence will leave no homegrown Paxten Arronson to win the job.
Paxten is the younger brother of Brendan Aaronson, who was transferred to Red Bull Salzburg. The Union play their final preseason game on Friday before heading back home to Chester ahead of the MLS season on February 26th.
