Union draw in MLS home opener

The 2022 MLS regular season has begun as the Philadelphia Union hosted Minnesota FC in their season opener. With some significant moves this offseason to the roster, the club looks to finish some unsettled business following last year’s brutal end to the season.
Before the game, we saw record-breaking acquisition Mikael Uhre introduced to the fans. Uhre just made it to the states on Friday, so hopefully, we will see the goal machine very soon.
Here’s the Union’s starting lineup for the first game
First Half:
As expected for the first game, both teams were very sloppy with the ball, but Minnesota was able to capitalize first with a goal by Robin Lod in the 23rd minute.
It didn’t take long for the team to wake up following Minnesota’s goal, Just twelve minutes later, the boys in blue equalized on a beautiful cross from Jakob Glesnes right to Sergio Santos.
The game entered halftime 1-1 as both teams looked slow to start but picked things up towards the end. The Union looked to enter next half and quickly take control of this game to earn three points in front of the home crowd.
Second Half:
The second half was a very competitive, but both teams couldn’t find the back of the net to take the lead. Andre Blake came up huge when they needed him most in the second half with a couple of big saves. His best one came in extra time.
The game and the boys in blue walked away with a point. There’s a lot to work on for the boys in blue, but this was expected for the first game of the season. Next Saturday, the club will travel to play Montreal, looking for their first win of the 2022 MLS Season.
