Soccer Preview: Union vs CF Montréal

The Philadelphia Union are hitting the road to Montréal for their first away game of the 2022 season. The match is set to start at 4PM EST tomorrow, and you can catch the game on PHL17 or at the Philadelphia Union website if you’re in the DMA area.
The Union enter this game following a 1-1 draw against Minnesota last Saturday in the season opener. After going down 1-0 early, Corey Burke was able to tie the game just 10 minutes later with a beautiful header.
Last week, we also got to see the debut of Julian Carranza, who was signed on loan this offseason from Inter Miami. Carranza looked good in the first game with the Union and seems to be a solid offseason acquisition from Ernst Tanner.
Mikael Uhre set to make Union debut?
In some good news from this week, we might see Mikael Uhre make his Union debut Saturday. Uhre was acquired in a record-breaking deal for the club this offseason following the shocking departure of Kacper Przybylko.
Uhre arrived in the states last weekend and has been training with the team all week. head coach Jim Curtin met with the media ahead of the game and told reporters that Uhre “will be ready, no question about it”.
Opponent Preview: CF Montreal
This will be the 25th meeting between the clubs, with Montréal leading the series 9-7-8. However, in their last four matchups, the Union are unbeaten. Last season, both games ended in dramatic fashion, where both games ended as ties due to late game equalizers.
The key player to watch for Montréal is homegrown midfielder Djordje Mihailovic. Mihailovic is entering his second season with Montreal, and in the first three games this season, he has scored one goal and recorded one assist. He is an essential piece to the club’s starting XI and will definitely be a player to watch out for on Saturday.
Prediction: 1-1 draw
We have seen the Union’s first game, and they weren’t playing at their best. I expect this trend to continue as they are about to add Uhre into the lineup. Montréal will definitely come to play in front of their home fans, and I expect that to have a significant impact on Saturday.
Union goalie Andre Blake will have some big saves once again, but I could see the backline giving Montréal some easy opportunities on goal. This should be a more fun game to watch than last week, especially with the potential debut of Mikael Uhre.
Who knows, maybe he will score in his MLS debut.
