Phillies Ink Ronald Torreyes To Minor League Deal

The Philadelphia Phillies are bringing back a familiar face, signing veteran utility infielder Ronald Torreyes to a minor league deal.
For Torreyes, 29, this will be his third consecutive season in red pinstripes. In 352 career games, he has slashed a paltry.265/.299/.361 with a wRC+ of 76.
In 2021, Torreyes, had a career-high 344 at-bats. He slashed .242/.286/.346 with an OPS+ of 71. Probably too many opportunities for a light hitting utility man known more for his glove work, but the entire Phillies infield either struggled or suffered long-term injury.
The Phillies signed veteran utility infielder and former Atlanta Brave Johan Camargo to a major league deal before the lockout in hopes that he could fill the role while providing a bit more offensive pop.
Despite him limitations, Torreyes plays hard and has become somewhat of a fan-favorite. With ‘La Bamba’ by Ritchie Valens serving as the most popular walk-up music in recent memory.
Welcome back to South Philly (and Lehigh Valley) Ronald!
