Rumor: Eagles interested in 5-time Pro Bowl cornerback

The Eagles have signed just two players outside of their own team so far in free agency but could be looking to add another prolific corner to the defense.
After being linked to veteran CBs Patrick Peterson and Xavier Rhodes, the team has apparently reached out to two-time All-Pro Stephon Gilmore, according to his wife via Twitter:

New England traded Gilmore to Carolina last season in exchange for a sixth-round pick after contract talks broke down. After starting the 2021 season on the PUP list, Gilmore tallied two interceptions with the Panthers and allowed just a 78.6 passer rating in coverage.
Now an unrestricted free agent, Gilmore is healthy and available to sign with any team to help bolster the secondary. Even though he’ll be 32 years of age in September, the Eagles could do a lot worse than pair the 2019 Defensive Player of the Year with Darius Slay.
Taking one of the talented defensive backs in next month’s draft should still be a priority, but Gilmore would suffice for a year. The 10-year veteran has racked up 427 tackles, 27 INTs and 116 passes defended in his decorated career.
