“Forever Boner” building to be remodeled into new North Philly hotel after 40 years of vacancy

Developers officially plan to remodel the iconic Forever Boner building in North Philadelphia into a brand-new hotel. Formally known as the Beury Building, the structure has famously served more as a canvas for nontraditional art than any residential purpose.
Per the developer, the hotel will have “38 guest rooms, ground-level restaurants and café, a rooftop bar and restaurant, a fitness center, and meeting spaces.”
SHIFT Capital announced the plan to renovate the Forever Boner on March 25:
While many will be sad to no longer see the massive graffiti on display when they drive down Broad Street, I feel residents will be happy to see a building that’s been vacant for 40 years be put to good use. The Instagram announcement claims they are working with community members to ensure they are happy with the project, but we all know how that can go.

If the community votes to repaint the “Forever Boner” graffiti on the facade, I will fully support them in that effort. Hell, I’ll bring the spray paint myself. But I also wouldn’t blame them if they were okay with a massive reminder of the city’s negligence being removed from one of the most visible spots in the neighborhood.
At any rate, the only thing I care about is the residents being properly involved and respected throughout the process. Anyone else’s opinion is irrelevant.
