Rejoice: Mask Mandates make their return to Philadelphia just in time for the NBA Playoffs

The city of Philadelphia released their updated COVD-19 infection numbers today and in response, city officials are bringing back mask mandates starting next Monday, April 18th.
While it’s definitely important to remain safe against COVID, you have to stop and ask yourselves why on earth are we bringing back masks? Not only are we bringing them back, but city officials decided to announce the mandate today while waiting a week to actually put it back into effect?
That makes zero sense.
City officials say that there are now a reported 142 new COVID cases per day, more than 50% higher than totals reported 10 days ago. Out of the 142 cases, 44 people have been hospitalized. Unless I missed it, there’s no word on if the hospitalizations are because of COVID and also, no word on why 142 cases a day in a city with 1.6 million is a valid reason to bring back mask mandates.Â
The Philadelphia 76ers first playoff game will be on Saturday at 6PM. To be clear, no mask required for game one against the Raptors. HOWEVER, game two, which will be on Monday, two days after game one, fans will be required to wear a mask.
For the handful of people who are still going to Flyers games, they have two more home games following next Monday’s mandate, and our beloved Philadelphia Wings will remain on the road for the rest of the lacrosse season. Lucky them.
So yeah, now we’re back to wearing masks indoors unless you’re eating or drinking something. So really, we’re all back to having food or dink in front of us while indoors so we don’t have to wear a mask.
The entire thing is stupid and just like Joel Embiid not favorited to winning the MVP Award this season, no one can provide me with a good explanation on the effectiveness of masks and why bringing them back is a valid way in combating COVID-19.
After two years of dealing with COVID, clearly I’m burnt out. It’s hard to even keep quiet about it anymore and I’m sure the majority of people here disagree with the tone of this article but I honestly don’t care. None of this makes sense and I’m having a hard time understanding why anyone would support these types of mandates again.
Mandates stink. No more mandates. This entire thing has gotten so crazy that I wouldn’t be surprised if people on social media started blaming Matisse Thybulle for the fact that mask mandates are making a return to Philadelphia.
I can’t do another COVID summer. I’ll be in Delco enjoying myself for anyone interested in joining me.
