Freedom: Philadelphia to drop mask mandate yet again after COVID cases have leveled out
Well, that certainly didn’t last long. According to reports, the city of Philadelphia is already preparing to drop the mask mandate that was reinstated last Monday, April 18th after announcing the return a week before on April 11th.
The Philadelphia Health Department stated earlier this evening that due to decreasing hospitalizations and a leveling of case counts, the city will move to “strongly recommend masks in indoor public spaces as opposed to a mask mandate.
On April 11th, city officials said that there was a reported 142 new COVID cases per day, which was more than 50% higher than totals reported at the beginning of the month. Out of the 142 cases, 44 people were hospitalized.
Outside of that, there was little-to-no reasoning behind bringing back the mask mandates, which had residents of Philadelphia questioning why even bring them back at all. In a city of 1.6 million people, bringing back mandates because of 142 cases didn’t add up.
Lets be clear about one thing: no one is following any type of science and no one has any clue what’s going on or what to believe anymore when it comes to COVID-19. Blame the media. The entire thing has been a total disaster and makes city officials look like complete idiots.
Honestly, my guess is that the public backlash, paired with their lack of reasoning and the simple fact that no one was taking the mandates seriously anymore, city health officials decided it was a bad idea and that it wasn’t worth the trouble of enforcing when literally no one was following the mandate to begin with.
At the 76ers game on Monday, you could maybe spot a total of five masks in the crowd after the mandate was put into effect. On top of that, the Wells Fargo Center kicked out a guy wearing a plague mask due to the fact that he was mocking the mandates rather than following strict guidelines on the type of masks that were mandated to be worn.
Anyways, thankfully it’s all over now. Mask mandates are stupid. You don’t have to wear masks on federal transportation (airplanes) anymore either. Let’s just stop mandating things and let people decide what’s best for their own health and safety of others when it comes to COVID-19.
We can’t keep going mandate, no mandate. I’m all for being safe against COVID but at this point, the whole mandate thing is over. No one wants mandates and the majority of people are ready to move on. If you’re not, that’s fine too. Wear a mask. For everyone else, enjoy yourselves.
You deserve it after two plus years of COVID-19 hell.
