Not Fair: 76ers fan wears plague mask to Game 2, immediately told to leave by security

76ers Game 2 – In case you missed it, Philadelphia reinstated their mask mandate last Monday, with the first day of it going into action today. Why did we wait a week to bring back mask mandates? I have no clue. City officials said that there were a reported 142 new COVID cases per day, more than 50% higher than totals reported almost two weeks ago. Out of the 142 cases, 44 people have been hospitalized. So they made the announcement and waited a week to force everyone to mask up again. Duh…
Unless I missed it, there’s no word on if the hospitalizations are because of COVID and also, no word on why 142 cases a day in a city with 1.6 million is a valid reason to bring back mask mandates.
Makes no sense.
Anyways, after being mask-free on Saturday night at the 76ers game, fans were told that they have to wear masks tonight for Game 2 of the NBA Playoffs against the Raptors. Let’s check in with Fox 29’s Chris O’Connell on how that’s going as fans enter the Wells Fargo Center before the game.
76ers Fan Plague Mask
That mask is okay in my book. The guy has his face completely covered, including his eyes, and probably is the safest guy in the building against the 142 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the city of Philadelphia, no? I guess not. Wells Fargo Center security told him the mask was no good and he would have to leave the building and/or find another mask to wear during the game tonight.
The irony of security stopping a guy wearing a plague mask, while they are wearing cotton masks, as if they do the trick in stopping the spread of COVID-19 any more than the plague mask is pretty amazing. No one seems to bring that up in the short video clip though. Oh well.
Philadelphia is the only major city that re-instated mask mandates in the country. It makes no sense. In my opinion, this guy is totally right in saying “if they’re going to treat me like a clown I’m going to act like a clown.”
In fact, maybe if the masks could be fun like a plague mask, more people would be into masking up whenever city officials decide to throw more mandates out there hoping that they can get everyone to listen to them without questioning the logic one more time.
Anyways, pretty wild mask to wear to the Sixers game, and even more wild that we’re still dealing with bullshit mandates while attending sporting events. Just grab a drink and some food and sit at your seat mask free. It’s really that easy.
Go Sixers.
