Eagles draft TE Grant Calcaterra with their last pick at 198 overall

With their final pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, the Eagles added to their offensive weaponry by adding SMU tight end Grant Calcaterra.
The Oklahoma transfer shines in his passing-blocking and receiving but may have fallen due to his history of concussions. He was named a captain during his lone season at SMU, which is a testament to his leadership, a quality the Eagles extremely value. Grading him as a pure pass-catcher without the concussion history, Grant Calcaterra would have gone a couple of rounds higher.
Calcaterra started all 12 games for the Mustangs last season and racked up 38 catches for 465 yards and four touchdowns with two drops on 62 targets. He also ranked tied 6th on the team with a 72.8 PFF pass-block grade but needs work on his run-blocking technique posting a 48.5 PFF run-blocking grade in 2021.
With the tight end room devoid of talent besides Dallas Goedert, the Eagles needed to address another run-blocking, pass-catching tight end. I love what Richard Rodgers did for this team when we needed it, and JJAW’s switch from wide receiver to tight end doesn’t inspire too much confidence. AJ Brown, DeVonta Smith, Dallas Goedert, and Grant Calcaterra make for a solid passing attack.
