Phanatic imposter sighted in Seattle as the Phillies kickoff West Coast trip

The Phillies are giving the Mariners the business tonight out in Seattle, kicking off their week-long West Coast trip. Right now, it’s 6-0 in the top of the 5th inning but like we learned last week, no lead is sacred with the Fightins’ so I’m not going to say much more about that. What I will comment on, is the imposter Phanatic in the stands.
It appears that a member of the Phillies Phaithful threw together a Phanatic costume to greet the team in attempt to lift their spirits after a rough series against the New York Mets. These days, it feels like the most interesting things happening at Phillies games are in the stands.

There’s no clue as to who this cosplayer is as of right now. Likely some fan with a lot of green felt and spare time on their hands. Although it would be fun to imagine Lenny Dykstra wandering the concourse out in Seattle as an ersatz Phanatic, possibly threatening to fight someone over cutting in line at the sushi stand.
All things considered, let’s give this imposter a grade.
Grading this Phanatic Imposter
The overall quality of the costume is fairly high considering that it was (presumably) homemade. The biggest issues are the felt color being a shade off, and the overall esthetic being too skinny. The Phanatic is plump. The way the suit hangs baggily, it has the look of a hungover mall Santa. The nose is just too thin as well. Not to mention the eye holes cut out of the throat give the impression of a botched tracheotomy.
I’m giving this imposter a solid C+.
Look, I respect the effort but if you’re going to pull off one of the most iconic mascots in the history of sports it has to be perfect. We all went through hell for roughly two years with a fake Phanatic after the lawsuit and i got PTSD looking at this imposter at the start of this game.
Thank god the Phillies are winning or else I would have lost my mind.
I do have some questions…
Did they wear it to the ballpark out there or put it on in a cramped bathroom stall?
Did they put on the costume in the parking lot or were they driving to the stadium dressed up already?
Still, the effort is there and it’s hard to really come down hard on any Phillies fan rooting for this godforsaken team on the road, especially when you’re out in the Pacific Northwest, so I won’t crush the effort. I think a C+ is a fair grade and honestly, I was happy with the same throughout my school days so don’t take it as an insult.
Anyways, let’s hope the Phillies close this game out and start their trip out West off on the right foot. If that’s the case, the imposter Phanatic better be there for the next two games in Seattle. We need all the support we can get.
