Mickey Moniak is heading to Reading, will bat leadoff and start in centerfield today

Mickey Moniak is fast-tracking his way back to the major league level. After beginning his rehab assignment with Clearwater (A) in Florida last week, Moniak will be heading to Reading.
In three games with Clearwater, he hit .400 with a 1.162 OPS. Moniak will bat leadoff today and start in centerfield for the Fightin’ Phils.
Strong Spring Training for Mickey Moniak
After Phillies hitting coach Kevin Long managed to fix Moniak’s swing in a matter of weeks leading up to Spring Training, Mick caught fire down in Florida, slashing .378/.378/.973 with a 1.351 OPS, finishing camp with six home runs and 11 RBI.
Just when you thought everything was going well heading into Opening Day with Moniak making the Phillies roster in centerfield, we learned that he would miss 4-6 weeks with a hairline fracture in his wrist, which he suffered in his final at-bat of Spring Training.
It looks like Moniak and the Phillies organization are determined to get him back to the major league level as soon as possible. If Moniak can return to form and continue to play well like he did throughout Spring Training, that would be huge for the Phillies, who are in desperate need of a leadoff hitter. I love Rhys Hoskins but he’s certainly not a leadoff guy. Moniak stabilizing the centerfield position would be huge for the Phillies.
Fingers crossed.
