Rumor Mill: Eagles bolster backfield in Bleacher Report’s latest trade idea
After switching up their playbook midseason, Nick Sirianni and the Eagles became the league’s most effective team on the ground.
With dual-threat QB Jalen Hurts leading the charge, Philadelphia finished the year first in total rushing yards and rushing yards per game. Even after adding star WR AJ Brown, Philly should continue to be dominant on the ground in 2022 behind the best offensive line in football.
As it stands, the Eagles are rostering Miles Sanders, Kenneth Gainwell, Boston Scott, Jason Huntley and Kennedy Brooks at the running back position.
Gainwell showed promise as a rookie last season and Scott is a serviceable change-of-pace back, but they could certainly use another weapon out of the backfield.

In Bleacher Report’s latest Shocking Trade Ideas, they suggested that the Eagles should kick the tires on a back that may be expendable in Cleveland:
“Checking in with the Browns on a Kareem Hunt deal would be worth investigating. Hunt has been an ideal second running back for three years in Cleveland. He averaged 2.8 yards after contact last season. Only Rashaad Penny, Nick Chubb and Jonathan Taylor had a higher average.
The Browns enjoyed some breakout performances from D’Ernest Johnson last season, giving them three backs they can count on. However, with Deshaun Watson in the fold, they may not be as run-heavy as they once were.
It’s worth a call to see how much they value Hunt.”
Browns beat reporter Mary Kay Cabot has claimed that the five-year veteran is still in the plans for Clevland this season, despite a crowded running back room:
“The Browns and Hunt haven’t engaged in substantive extension talks, but he’s not in jeopardy of being the odd man out. During OTAs on Wednesday, Hunt and Nick Chubb appeared on the field together on several occasions, and the offense could feature them together more this season.”

Hunt is coming off an injury-riddled 2021 season but has been productive during his three-year tenure in Cleveland, totaling over 2,100 yards from scrimmage and 19 TDs.
Miles Sanders is entering the final year of his rookie contract with extra motivation, having recently dealt with his own injury woes. If he can stay healthy, he’s in line for a sizeable payday.
Sanders was amongst the league leaders in yards per carry last season, right behind Kareem Hunt’s current teammate Nick Chubb.
