Series Preview: Phillies travel north to Toronto, square off against the Blue Jays for 2 games

The Phillies travel up to Toronto, Canada to take on the Blue Jays in a short two-game set. Andrew Bellatti (1-3, 3.14 ERA) will get the start for the Phils bullpen game, going up against Jose Berrios for the Jays.

Sunday’s loss capped off the Phillies’ 4-game set in a series split, as the bats went silent and Aaron Nola got roughed up. The Phillies are back tied with the Cardinals for the last Wild Card spot, and sit at 46-41 on the season, 5 games above .500.

Tonight kicks off a two-game series, but the Phillies will be without a few players. Alec Bohm, JT Realmuto, Aaron Nola, and Kyle Gibson will not travel with the team due to COVID-19 vaccination requirements, leaving the Phillies in a tough spot on the mound. They will throw their second bullpen game in three days tonight, as Andrew Bellatti is set to get the start.

Andrew Bellatti vs Jose Berrios

Andrew Bellatti is 1-3 on the season, with a 3.14 ERA out of the bullpen. Bellatti struggled a little to start the year but has been a consistently solid pitcher for us out of the pen over the last month and a half. He’ll go up against Jose Berrios, who’s 6-4 on the year with a 5.44 ERA in 89.1 innings.

The Blue Jays come into tonight’s game just 3 games above .500, after a disappointing start to their highly anticipated season. Vladimir Guerrero Jr still leads the way, with 19 HRs and 54 RBIs on the year. Bo Bichette is slashing .259/.301/.430 (.731) on the year, while George Springer sits at a .250 average with ab .821 OPS and a 2.4 WAR, the second-best on the team.
