Roster Moves: Phillies claim LHP from Toronto Blue Jays, Zach Eflin hits 60-day IL

The Phillies have claimed LHP Andrew Vasquez off waivers from the Toronto Blue Jays and have optioned him to Triple-A Lehigh Valley. As a corresponding move, SP Zach Eflin has been transferred to the 60-day IL.
Andrew Vasquez has tallied an 8.10 ERA in 6.2 innings this year, allowing 6 earned runs, 6 hits, 3 walks, and 1 home run in that time. Vasquez hasn’t been good for Toronto, holding a 1.350 WHIP on the year.
Zach Eflin officially hits the 60-day IL, and the latest he can return is August 25th. Eflin is still dealing with his knee injury, but was solid before he went down, holding a 4.37 ERA in 68 innings, allowing 66 hits and 33 earned runs while striking out 56 batters.
The Phillies are in the hunt for the playoffs and can not afford to throw Bailey Falter every 5 days in the last two months of the season. The team needs to go get a starting pitcher before tonight’s 6 PM deadline. They have already been linked to a few names, including Tyler Mahle and Noah Syndergaard. Carlos Rodon is also a name that the team could look into.
The Fightins take on the Braves tonight at 7:20 EST in Atlanta. Nick Nelson starts the bullpen game, facing off against Spencer Strider. 3 and 1/2 hours to go til the Trade Deadline.
