Roster Moves: Phillies recall Nick Maton

The Philadelphia Phillies announced a roster move ahead of tonight’s matchup against the Washington Nationals.
Nick “The Next Chase Utley” Maton has been recalled from Lehigh Valley and in a corresponding move, Yairo Munoz has been sent back down.
Maton was with the Phillies earlier this season but ended up hitting the injured list after he laid out to rob Mike Trout of a base hit back in early June.

In six at-bats with the Phillies this season, he went 3-for-6 with one home run and 4 RBI. With Lehigh Valley this season, Maton averaged .263 with five home runs and 39 RBI in 228 plate appearances.

The Phillies likely made this move because they needed another left-handed bat off the bench. Yairo Munoz wasn’t horrible, but Nick Maton is certainly an upgrade. In 50 at-bats with the Phillies this season, Munoz averaged .220 with three home runs and seven RBI.
