The Flyers have 5 players on their training camp roster that are there on PTOs. Tyler Wall, Pat Nagle, and Nolan Maier are all goalies. Antoine Roussel & Artem Anisimov are two names who received invites today that are sure to raise a few eyebrows.
Anisimov attended Colorado’s training camp last season but didn’t receive an NHL contract. Artem then returned to the KHL where he scored 19pts in 27 games for Yaroslavl Lokomotiv.
I don’t see Anisimov making the team but I think this is more of a move on Tortorella’s part to make camp as competitive as possible. Anisimov played for Tortorella from 2009-2011.
Antoine Roussel used to be a really good typical bottom-six, in-your-face, tough-guy kind of player that could beat you in other areas of the game. Since suffering an ACL injury after scoring a career-high with Dallas (9G-22A-31P in 65 games) he really hasn’t been the same player.
Roussel spent six years with the Dallas Stars and three seasons with the Vancouver Canucks before playing with the Coyotes in 2021-2022.
In the end, PTOs aren’t serious enough to get into heated exchanges about. They’re the true definition of low risk/high reward.
