Injury Update: Phillies shooting for weekend rehab assignment for Nick Castellanos

Phillies RF Nick Castellanos has been out since September 2nd with an oblique strain.
Ahead of yesterday’s big-time loss to the Blue Jays, manager Rob Thomson gave us a positive update on Castellanos, saying the “best-case scenario” would be a rehab assignment beginning this weekend, which isn’t off the table.
The Phillies lost Castellanos back on September 2nd, with a platoon of Nick Maton, Matt Vierling, and Dalton Guthrie filling that hole. Those guys have hit a combined .261/.297/.435 in that time.
Castellanos led the team in hits before he went down and is hitting .265/.305/.397 on the year with a .702 OPS. He’s crushed 13 HRs and 61 RBIs, with 132 hits and 27 doubles throughout 128 games.
Nick has yet to hit in the cage, but his first reps will come tonight inside the tunnel. Castellanos does have the option to decline a rehab assignment and come right back, but getting a few tune-up games in Lehigh Valley can’t hurt.
Up Next for the Phillies
The Phillies need to win a baseball game tonight, after dropping their 5th game in a row as every single pitcher imploded. Zack Wheeler makes his return to the mound.
