Preview: Phillies, Aaron Nola face off against the Chicago Cubs at 7:40

Coming off a brutal loss on Tuesday, the Phillies take the field tonight at 7:40, looking for a crucial win against the Chicago Cubs.
Aaron Nola (10-12, 3.28 ERA) gets the ball for the Phils, going up against Hayden Wesneski (2-1, 2.45 ERA).
Tuesday night’s loss wasn’t a pretty one, as the Phillies offense recorded just five hits, allowing Marcus Stroman to go seven strong innings, allowing just one earned run and striking out six. Zack Wheeler did his job, going six strong allowing just five hits and one earned run with 5 Ks.
Rob Thomson made the decision to bring Connor Brogdon into the game in the bottom of the 7th, even after the Phillies had an off day on Monday. Brogdon now has a 7+ ERA over his last 15 appearances and allowed another run off a bloop base-hit to right field. It feels like last night’s game could have been won with a right bullpen decision at that moment.
Luckily for the Phillies, the St. Louis Cardinals got the job done, beating the Brewers 6-2 which kept the NL Wild Card standings exactly where they were prior to the game. St. Louis clinched the NL Central with their win as well.

Reminder: Every Phillies win counts as -1 towards the Magic Number. If the Brewers lose, that counts as an additional -1. The Magic Number is currently 7.
Aaron Nola vs. Hayden Wesneski
Aaron Nola is coming off a great start against the Braves at home, going six strong innings allowing just four this and zero earned runs while striking out 8. Nola has been great away from CBP this season, holding a 3.02 ERA but just a 4-8 record. Hayden Wesneski will make just his third start of the season after allowing an opposing slash line of .167/.200/.313. He’s 2-1 on the year with a 2.45 ERA and 24 Ks.
