Nick Sirianni disowns family and declares Philly “Best sports town in America” proving he’s exactly the lunatic this city needs

Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni was feeling pretty good about the state of Philly sports following his team’s big 35-13 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers yesterday afternoon at Lincoln Financial Field.

Here’s the full transcript of Nick Sirianni’s quote:
“I just want to say, unbelievable. I have been to stadiums where Steeler fans take over, but no way did I ever think that would happen in Philadelphia… I barely saw any of those terrible towels. I didn’t see any of those.
Our fans came out and supported us; it was unbelievable, but my mom’s cousin… I’m not even claiming them… They didn’t even sit in our sections. They just live in Philly and they grew up in Pittsburgh.
You guys saw something about my parents, they grew up in Pittsburg and everything like that, and my mom’s cousin, she’s like “They wanna say hello to you before the game.” I’m like, “Well they know they can’t wear Steelers stuff and come on the sidelines.” She’s like “Well we’re not giving them on the sideline.” And they were wearing Steelers gear. So the cute Christmas cards with this one and this one and my other son, they will not be receiving one of those cute Christmas cards this week.
But so much of a shout-out to our fans… This is Philly. This is what makes Philly one of the best… The best sports town in America. It’s freaking awesome. We’ve taken over stadiums in Arizona. We took over a stadium in Washington. And then a team that travels well like Pittsburg that travels well? No traveling here because none of our people gave up tickets. And my mom’s cousin, I’m not claiming them; they won’t get a Christmas card.”
That’s right; the Eagles coach was so offended by his own flesh and blood wearing the opposition’s colors that he’s disowned them. Well at the bare minimum, he’s cut them off from Christmas cards. For extended family, that’s basically as good as an old-fashioned ex-communication.
Nick Sirianni has come a long way since his initial press conference that made people worry he wasn’t up to the task of running a pro football team. Time and time again he has proven the doubters wrong.
At this point, the sample size is large enough that we know his nervous energy and enthusiasm are not an act. Nick Sirianni is the real deal. And he’s clearly sincere when he declares Philly the best sports town in America.
This is a man that last year got a locker room full of professional athletes to buy into a gardening metaphor and led them to the playoffs in a season that had been written off as a lost cause before the very first snap of the season. Now that he has a team loaded with talent, they continue to respond to his unique style.
They have followed his lead to a 7-0 record and are in the driver’s seat to own the number one seed in the NFC. Nick Sirianni is currently a front-runner to win NFL Coach of the Year honors.
