Recap: Flyers put forward best performance of season, beat Blues 5-1

Without a doubt…the best game the Flyers have played this year.
The boys are now 7-3-2 and Felix Sandstrom has FINALLY been rewarded for his solid play this year with his first win of the season.
1st period
The 1st period was a pretty solid one for the Flyers. Nothing happened much in terms of them generating offensive chances…but they were on top of the puck and extremely disruptive in the neutral zone.
The Flyers outshot the Blues 18-11, which seems like the first time since the 1980’s.
Nick Seeler and Flyers Legend, Brayden Schenn, went at it. I’d say Seeler got the better half of Schenn but it wasn’t much.
Not shortly after, Zack MacEwen and Bortuzzo fought. This was even more of a wrestling match than the 1st fight, quickly ending with MacEwen falling ontop of Bortuzzo.
2nd period
Here’s where things opened up for the Flyers offensively.
3 goals in one period, starting out with Wade Allison simply going to the dirty area.
Great to see Allison cash in there.
Travis Konecny joined the fun, scoring off a beautiful 2-man rush with Owen Tippett.
Talk about a SNIPE.
With 3 seconds left in the period, Laughton knocked down a attempted clear at the St. Louis blue line, found Sanheim near the face off dot who then found Noah Cates back door.
3rd period
Right out of the gate the Blues were pressuring the Flyers in their own zone, manhandling the time of possession.
With about 6 min into the period, the Blues finally cut into the Flyers 3-0 lead.
But…Sedlak and the Flyers responded almost immediately after. Seeler put on a point shot that found Sedlak (his 1st as a Flyer) right at the doorstep.
The Flyers really shut the door on the Blues after their goal to start the period. It’s a breath of fresh air to see this team say “actually… no, you’re not creeping back into this game”, instead of crumbling.
Sedlak, who has been very good since being claimed off waivers, looked really good tonight and cashed in to score his first goal of the year (and as a Flyer).
Owen Tippett joined in on the fun and scored a nice goal that bounced in off the goalie. He’s been REALLY good since returning from injury and should have more points so he honestly deserves that bounce.
All in all, the best game as a team for the Flyers & the scored 5 goals doing it. Can’t ask for anything more there.
Next up, Johnny Hockey in his new home.
