Former Eagles WR sounds off on Jalen Hurts potentially losing MVP award due to injury

Heading into Week 15, Eagles QB Jalen Hurts was the odds-on favorite for the NFL MVP award.
That all changed after Hurts suffered a sprain to his right throwing shoulder in last week’s win over Chicago. The Eagles officially ruled out Hurts for their upcoming matchup against Dallas, effectively making Gardner Minshew the starter on Christmas Eve.
The sportsbooks have adjusted the MVP odds accordingly, pushing Patrick Mahomes ahead as the heavy favorite.

Eagles fans are no strangers to watching their star quarterback get snubbed for league MVP. Five years ago, Wentz was on his way to securing the award before an ACL tear prematurely ended his season.
One of Wentz’ teammates during that run, WR Torrey Smith, thought it was inane back then, and he shares the same sentiment this year regarding Jalen Hurts.
They did it to Carson 🤷🏿♂️ It was wack then and it’ll be wack now if they do that to Jalen. https://t.co/dbNtxTtt6v

Jalen Hurts currently ranks fourth in the NFL in passer rating (104.6) and third in total TDs (35) while leading Philadelphia to a remarkable 13-1 record. With three games remaining, the Eagles need just one win to clinch the NFC East title and a first-round bye.
Hurts’ injury isn’t considered to be long-term; Philadelphia is hopeful that he’ll be 100% for the postseason. If Minshew pulls off a victory against Dallas, Hurts has likely played his final regular season game in 2022.
As you can imagine, Hurts doesn’t care about the MVP award. The Eagles have much higher aspirations, and they’ll need Hurts healthy in the playoffs if they hope to achieve them.
