Dunk of the Year: Aaron Gordon posterizes Landry Shamet in Denver Nuggets overtime win over the Phoenix Suns

For those of you up late last night on Christmas having one final night cap to wrap up the holiday weekend, you might have caught the Denver Nuggets, Phoenix Suns game and Aaron Gordon’s submission to the NBA’s Dunk of the Year.
Aaron Gordon Posterizes Landry Shamet
The Nuggets ended up beating the Suns in overtime 128-125 which was my personal favorite game of the 2022-23 NBA season to date. In my opinion, Christmas has, and always will be the official start of the NBA season and we’ll finally start seeing teams hitting their stride (shoutout Sixers eight game winning streak) and playing better basketball than what we’ve seen over the first few months of the season.
Gordon’s dunk was initially called a charging foul but was then rightfully overturned after the replay showed Shamet not having his feet set, which honestly had to make the dunk sting a little bit more for Shamet and the Suns since it was played on loop for a good 3-4 minutes before the correct call was finally made.
Gordon finished the game with 28 points on 11-of-18 shooting with 13 rebounds, two assists, a steal, and a block.
Just when you thought Jayson Tatum’s dunk on Giannis would get some extra love on Christmas Day, Gordon put on a clinic in the dunk department late night to steal the headlines.
Sure, Tatum’s dunk was solid but for Gordon to come crashing down the court and finishing on top of Shamet (pause), the entire thing was a spectacle to watch with the added drama of a replay review in a highly contested game.
The Nuggets win gave Denver sole possession of the Western Conference. Again, outside of Devin Booker playing a total of four minutes and absolutely CRUSHING people who bet on the game, it was the best game I’ve watched all year. We had even had vintage Jamal Murray and somehow, a 41/15/15 game from Nikola Jokic.
If anything, this is just another example of how NBA reigns king on Christmas Day.
The Sixers are back in action tomorrow night against the Washington Wizards before playing the Pelicans on Friday and the Thunder on Saturday to close out 2022.
Time to lock in on the NBA and Sixers basketball. Happy Boxing Day ya sickos.
