Best Cheesesteak: Matt Vierling, Brandon Graham, and Johnathan Papelbon give their picks

Cheesesteaks are a hallmark of Philadelphia’s identity, and the debate rages on for the best spot in the city. While many consider that argument to be played out – which it is – it’s still a fun, easy game to play with Philly public figures, especially athletes. Recently, Matt Vierling, Brandon Graham, and Johnathan Papelbon (???) shared their favorite place to indulge in a steak.
Santiago Sports asked this eclectic collection of athletes their cheesesteak preference:

This may be one of the most unexpected trios in Philly sports history. Honestly, it’s probably a more interesting story than their cheesesteak picks themselves.
Vierling opened strong with a Dalessandro’s pick. People on Twitter (ugh) are saying Dalessandro’s is becoming a tourist trap or losing their fastball. Those people are often the same that are “too good” for cheesesteak conversations. You know exactly who you are.
My biggest problem with the entire TikTok is Santiago’s blatant shilling for Angelo’s. I understand the place is really damn good, but it seems like all anybody wants to talk about these days.
It makes sense that Papelbon chose Geno’s. I take it over Pat’s, but it’s by no means the best in the city. That said, the answer could have some fanatics channeling his moment choking Bryce Harper.

Of course, Philly legend Brandon Graham answered Max’s or Jim’s, which is a fantastic pick either way. He also said he gained 20 pounds on cheesesteaks alone as a rookie, which is a trap many new athletes fall into.
I don’t know what’s more impressive, that or Papelbon holding the clubhouse record for 16 cheesesteaks in a day. Definitely something to ponder.
