Damar Hamlin asked doctors who won Bill-Bengals almost immediately after waking up in ICU

Bills safety Damar Hamlin’s has reportedly had “remarkable improvement.” Doctors saying the player’s “neurological condition and function is intact,” which has allowed him to communicate with friends and family in writing while his lungs continue to heal. While that alone is incredible news, what he said shortly after waking up in the ICU showed that he’s a competitor no matter what.
Damar Hamlin to his ICU doctors: “Who won the game?”
Damar Hamlin is a Football Guy. No doubt about it.
This is a situation I’d never joke about, but Damar waking up after cardiac arrest needing to know the final score put a smile on my face to be sure.
Little did he know, the entire football world screeched to a halt Monday night to pray for him and send messages of support, as well as over $7 million in donations to his charity. Now, it’s barely grinding its way back up to speed as his health progresses.
I don’t know when it will happen, but if things continue to go positively, he will definitely realize the magnitude of love and support he received from seemingly every corner of the country.
The doctors themselves definitely look like they were told to tell that story – the pause makes it appear a bit staged – but it doesn’t matter. Any good news at all about this situation, regardless of how it is packaged, will melt my icy, cynical heart.
God bless Damar Hamlin and his family. We’ll be rooting for them here in Philly, and I know we won’t be the only ones.
