Daniel Jones hype now comes with Jalen Hurts slander from Tiki Barber

Leading into Saturday night’s NFL divisional playoff game between the New York Giants and the Philadelphia Eagles, the “hype” surrounding Daniel Jones has already been completely ridiculous and now, has progressed to into outright slander of Jalen Hurts in an attempt to build up Danny Dimes as some kind of elite passer. That is simply not true.
Former Giants running back Tiki Barber took it upon himself to take a few cheap shots at Jalen Hurts on the Tiki and Tierney Show on WFAN in New York, a radio station that we have talked about a few times over the past week for saying ridiculous things about Philadelphia sports. They make Philly Sports Talk Radio look like the smartest people alive, which as we all know, is VERY hard to at times.
WATCH: Tiki Barber rips Jalen Hurts to hype up Daniel Jones
“He [Jalen Hurts] hasn’t been overly consistent the last three or four weeks and his last time in the postseason against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers a year ago, he played like crap…one touchdown, 53% completion percentage, two interceptions. He looked overmatched for the moment.”
Tiki Barber Misinformation
Anytime Barber mentions “last week” when talking about how “amazing” the Giants played against the Minnesota Vikings. He fails to bring up several key points as to why they found so much success and why most likely, it was an outlier.
- Vikings allowed 400 yards of offense for a franchise-worse fifth straight game.
- Vikings allowed 400+ yards NINE TIMES during the regular season.
- Vikings finished 31st in the NFL in yards allowed (388.7 yds per game)
- Giants racked up 431 yards of offense against Vikings, three weeks removed from putting up 445 yards against the Vikings in the regular season.
- Daniel Jones completed 24-of-35 passes for 301 yards and two touchdowns (lol).
- Daniel Jones only eclipsed 288 passing yards in a game TWICE during the regular season, against…you guessed it, the Minnesota Vikings and Detroit Lions.
- Daniel Jones was held below 200 passing yards 10 TIMES during the regular season.
- The Vikings allow 266.9 yards per game through the air.
- The Vikings didn’t pressure Daniel Jones once during the game.
- The center of the field was wide open and Jones made the easiest throws possible on short crossing routes.
- Isaiah Hodgins and Darius Slayton combined for 12 catches, 193 yards, and a touchdown.
- Jones escaped the pocket and ran for 80 yards on 14 carries.
Oh and Tiki my friend, Jalen Hurts has only played ONCE over the the past four weeks. He sat two games and played against the Giants in Week 18 and walked away with a victory with the Eagles game plan basically cut by 75%. There were ZERO designed runs for Hurts in Week 18 and the game’s only purpose was get Hurts’ feet wet before the playoffs.
Additionally, the idea of judging Jalen Hurts based on how he performed in last year’s debut in the playoffs in a matchup with the defending Super Bowl champion Buccaneers is intentionally misleading.
Anybody with two eyes and an IQ over the single digits can see how much he’s developed as a passer since 2021. It would appear based on this clip that Tiki has neither of those attributes.
All of this in service of building up Daniel Jones following his stellar performance against a miserable Vikings team. As we already covered in detail RIGHT HERE.
Daniel Jones looked good against the Vikings because everyone looked good against the Vikings this year. He was held under 200 yards passing 10 times this past season when playing against non-arena league level defenses.
It’s fine if Giants fans and media want to build up Daniel Jones.
It’s only going to make his fall back to earth all that more satisfying to watch against the Eagles on Saturday.
