Joel Embiid trails just two players in NBA.com’s most recent MVP Ladder

Finally, Joel Embiid earns a boost in recognition in the latest NBA MVP Ladder.
Embiid, who could barely crack the Top 5 this season, is now slotted in the No. 3 spot behind only Nikola Jokic and Jayson Tatum.

“The steady rise continues. Embiid missed three straight games from Jan. 4-8 but returned with a vengeance, averaging 34.0 PPG, 9.5 RPG, and 1.8 BPG in the six games since. The Sixers have won four in a row on their current five-game West road trip and eight of their first ten games in January to move into a second-place tie with the Bucks in the East. “I think we’re good, and I think we can be really, really good,” Philadelphia coach Doc Rivers said. Much of that depends on Embiid’s continued production on both ends of the floor, as the big man and James Harden seem to be hitting their stride.”

Embiid is now up to 33.6 points per game on the year while leading the team in rebounds. He’s shooting 54% from the field, 35.2% from three, and 86% from the stripe in 34 total games.

The Philadelphia 76ers are now tied with the Milwaukee Bucks in second place in the Eastern Conference Standings after winning their fourth straight game on the road last night in Portland. They will look for a 5-0 road trip sweep tomorrow night when they take on the 3-seed Sacramento Kings at 10:00 EST.
