Eagles’ Jalen Hurts Powerful Quote after winning NFC Championship Game

The Philadelphia Eagles drafted quarterback Jalen Hurts with the 53rd pick in the 2020 NFL Draft and at the time, Howie Roseman and the organization were widely criticized, wondering why the team would spend a second-round selection with a franchise quarterback in Carson Wentz already under center.
On Sunday afternoon, Jalen Hurts improved to 16-1 on the season, including a dominant 31-7 victory over the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC Championship game, punching the Philadelphia Eagles’ tickets to Super Bowl LVII, their fourth appearance in franchise history.
Funny how fast things changed…
After beating the San Francisco 49ers, Hurts took the podium to address the media and noted that Eagles fans “probably never wanted to draft me here” and that his selection in the second round had been “a big surprise to many.”
Jalen Hurts continued…
“But my favorite verse – you know, I went through a lot of stuff in college – and it kind of stuck with me – John 13:7,” Hurts said. “‘You may not know now, but later you’ll understand.’ Hopefully, people understand.”
“We put a lot of work in to have this opportunity and to be here,” Hurts said. “It’s a moment we want to enjoy as a team, reflecting on everything we’ve been able to overcome to have this opportunity in front of us. We want to take advantage of it.”
Hurts didn’t play his best game in the NFC Championship, but it certainly did not matter. The Eagles defense dominated and the offense scored four touchdowns on the ground to win in convincing fashion. Hurts completed 15-of-25 passes for 121 yards while rushing for 39 yards on 11 carries and a touchdown.
Hurts also touched on his performance in the NFC Championship during his press conference.
“You want to make the big plays,” Hurts said. “But a lot of this – all of this – comes down to the details. The attention to details, the football IQ and the fundamentals to do the right things – whether you want to keep the clock running or not or get the ball snapped quickly or knowing situational awareness.”

A Jalen Hurts Picture Worth a Thousand Words
That picture above perfectly sums up how much things have changed since Hurts was drafted. A stoic and swagged-out individual smoking a cigar after his team just won the conference championship—the same man who rivaled only Patrick Mahomes in the NFL MVP race this year.
Not bad for a backup quarterback, right?
Just a year ago, his team was bounced in the Wildcard round to the Buccaneers, where there were even more questions raised about Hurt’s ability to be a quarterback in this league. The majority of football fans in the city of Philadelphia and on the national level questioned his ability to throw the football and be a Super Bowl caliber quarterback. There were people screaming to trade him for Russell Wilson at the start of this season, and no one thought that he would make the almost-impossible progression that we are witnessing today.
Hurts never wavered or backed down from the challenge. Now, there’s one game left to played this season and the opportunity is ripe to silence the masses.
