The task for the Eagles won’t be easy, facing off against a lethal offense headlined by Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce. The Chiefs will play in their third Super Bowl in four years, but Jalen hurts isn’t worried about the competition.
“We definitely respect our opponent, they’re a really good team. We just want to go out there and do what we’ve done this entire time, we just need to play together.”
Jalen Hurts will ultimately fall short of winning MVP due to his injury, but Patrick Mahomes’ season was certainly a spectacular one. Mahomes finished the year with 5,250 total yards and 41 touchdowns, which both led the NFL. Irvin asked Hurts about the level of Mahomes’ game, and Hurts had nothing but respect for the former Super Bowl Champion.
“He’s up there. He’s definitely great at what he’s doing, been great in his career. I have a lot of respect for him, doing what he’s doing as a Texas guy. It’s going to be a fun one.”
Jalen Hurts’ play on the field is one thing, but his leadership is what truly makes him great. Irvin questioned Jalen Hurts on his upcoming pregame speech, and Jalen Hurts gave a classic Hurts answer.
“It’s all from the heart, everything comes from the heart. I prepare, I try and think about something that gets the guys going. I don’t need to say too much. We put all that work in, everything that we’ve had to overcome. We’re playing for a lot.”
The hate for Jalen Hurts has been flowing recently, but the true football fans know how special of a player and a person Jalen Hurts is. Irvin asked Hurts about his journey and how important it would be to close things out.
“I think for us as a team, we’ve come a very long way. I don’t want to make this about me. I want to make it about the work we’ve put in. We ain’t come this far for no reason. That’s both team going into it. We want to go out there and play our best game, when we need it the most.”
Two black quarterbacks will highlight a Super Bowl for the first time in NFL History, and Jalen Hurts knows how special this moment is for him, Patrick Mahomes, and the African-American community.
“It’s historic. To think about all the rich history in this game, to be apart of such a historic moment. It’s special. There’s so many quarterbacks before me, including Pat, that have laid this foundation for me. Now for two to go head-to-head, that’s uplifting for the next generation. To that four-year-old kid back in Houston, Philly, across the world, regardless of what people have to say about you…you can do it.”
